>> Hosting Your Own Mail Server |
|
It's Simple!
Email is easily the most pervasive, ubiquitous tool used by business today.
Your organization invariably is already using it, but at what cost? Many
companies have their ISP handle email for them, but most providers charge $5-$6
per box per month -- and every time you want to add or delete
a mailbox you have to make a call and deal with someone at the ISP.
The reality is that hosting your own email is easy, and it can pay for
itself in just months, depending on how many email users you have. Nor does it
require much skill -- the process of adding or removing staff from email takes
just seconds through a friendly user interface.

Flexibility
Companies run promotions all the time. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to
create custom email addresses on demand so you can gauge the effectiveness
of those promotions? Or to be able to create non-person-specific email addresses
like hr@domain.com, info@domain.com, or webmaster@domain.com and have them
automatically forward to the person(s) who should be handling them?
Many companies have multiple domain names in use. When you host your own email
server, you can choose to have the same email usernames exist in all of the
domain names you manage -- so, joe.schmo@domain1.com and joe.schmo@domain2.com
point to the exact same mail box. This can make email management so much easier!

Spam (Unsolicited Commercial Email) Filtering
There are several ways of
coping with today's gigantic spam problem -- server-side Bayesian filters like
SpamAssassin, client-side mail plugins like SpamSieve, and through
outsourced man-in-the-middle services like MessageLabs and Postini. While none of them
are a perfect solution (as new spam sources continue to crop up and each option
must be trained to deal with them), Escape's customers have reported that they've wiped
out the majority (anywhere from 70-99%) of their spam.
