1) In the
summer of 2001, Apple Computer initiated a recall on power adapters
from its 1998 PowerBook line. Only registered owners of these
PowerBooks were directly notified that their aging power adapters
were at significant risk of unexpectedly going up in flames.
2) At the
behest of a consultant, a company that was not entirely familiar
with what software it already owned purchased several programs
totaling thousands of dollars. Worse yet, after some personnel
changes, much of the critical ownership documentation (serial
numbers, original CDs, etc.) for this newly purchased software
disappeared.
Enter Escape.
With a little research, we quickly discovered that this company
in fact already owned everything they had just purchased,
which meant that they now owned two copies of everything,
but had serial numbers and CDs for very little of it. The only
reason we were able to divine this information is because all
of the software had been registered years ago when they were first
purchased, and the software vendors were able to confirm and document
serial numbers, issue replacement documentation, and for a small
fee replace the CDs.
