The Business Card Of The Modern World
If you don't have a web site, people wonder what hole you've had your head in
for the last ten years. However, Internet service providers charge unbelieveable
amounts to host even the simplest of web sites, and even more unreasonable sums
for larger sites or those requiring "special" services. Multiple web sites? Multiple fees.
The reality is that hosting your own web site(s) only requires a machine to act
as your web server (and it doesn't even have to be that recent or great of a computer) and
software that costs less than $500. Upcharge options that an ISP can provide, you can also do
yourself -- secure web site hosting ("SSL"), restricted access to certain areas of a site,
shopping cart functionality, detailed web log analysis...all easily accomplished for
considerably less than an ISP will charge.
